Rod Aspeslet, a former logger with 30 years of experience in the area, has been building furniture and carving for over three decades, inspired by the local wood varieties and introduced species that thrive in town. He values the natural colors and grain of wood, opting to use different woods for different hues rather than stains, which he believes obscure the grain's depth. Most of his furniture and carvings are finished with clear polyurethane or spar varnish, while his hand-carved bowls are treated with tung oil and carnauba wax, both food-safe. Proud of his sustainable approach, Rod primarily uses salvaged wood, giving new life to pieces with unique character.
