Nancy has an art degree but had focused on 2-D work. As an adult, she took a community pottery class in the 90’s and was instantly smitten by the medium of clay and never looked back. She taught art at Mount Royal College for seven years, started a pottery club there which was the largest club at the college, moved to Revelstoke in 2001, and has been working in clay ever since. She has sold her work through the local farmers markets, Art First Gallery, the Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre (where she also instructs pottery classes), and now at The Local Co-op.
»Nature is where I find my inspiration and Revelstoke is a gold mine for both nature and inspiration. We are surrounded by beauty: whether it's in the fresh rain drops on a leaf, the sparkle of individual snowflakes, the texture of the western red cedar, the colours of the sunset, the majestic peaks surrounding us or the magnificent transience of a cumulus cloud. I live surrounded by mountains in the Columbia valley where wildlife and birds abound. Each season brings new discoveries. I make a lot of mugs! Mugs are so personal to each individual and I enjoy engraving or drawing or glazing my mugs to be imbued with some aspect of this special place I call home. I hope my work will resonate with each recipient and wear well with time. My functional ware is dishwasher and microwave safe. That said, if using a dishwasher, the pieces should not be touching or crammed in to help ensure their longevity.«
